The Conference

The first International Conference for Ciberfeminism is a space to meet women, feminists, LGBT+ and human rights activists, environmentalists, and people who want to transgress societal “norms.” It’s an event to discuss diversity in technology and the Internet in a public space.

It’s a place to share our thoughts, ideas, feelings, and sentiments about Digital Feminist Activism and Ciberfeminism, and to articulate and strengthen our fight for a more equitable world, where patriarchal capitalism, racism, and homophobia do not take from our happiness.

When and Where?

The conference will be Thursday through Saturday, September 21-23, 2017 in Kitu (Quito), Ecuador, the middle of the world. Ecuador is a country which experienced 100 femicides in 2017 alone, more than 240 women were penalized for abortions between 2013 and 2017, and more than 63% of missing persons are female. In addition, Ecuador still has torture centers for gay conversion therapy. However, there are many people, collectives, and organizations that want to do something to change this.

What do we want?

We want a conference with diverse women to share their thoughts on technology and digital feminism.

We want to create a network of digital feminists to strengthen the fight for our rights, especially the rights of women.

We want to promote new technologies and digital tools that teach the principles of feminism, fight stereotypes and gender roles, use inclusive language, and do not discriminate.

We believe that knowledge can liberate and give access to everyone. We use our license Creative Commos, free software, and develop apps and software to strengthen the demands and requests of feminists.

These are the themes we’ve constructed together with various feminist collectives:

– Digital activism / Ciberfeminism

– Hackfeminism – Hacking the patriarchy

– Communication technologies with a focus on gender and feminism

– Feminist internet

– Feminist programming and development

– Digital security for activists: in the street and the web

– Actions and campaigns against violence and harassment online

– Free software, free knowledge, free women
